I like this idea, only I think it should be run by the government.

200HP Horse

Exoskeletons for horses

Back in the old days, when horse-drawn carriages and wagons were common, it was often true that a horse knew the way to a destination, and so the reins were not always needed to control it. Then came the automobile, and people needed all their attention to safely reach destinations.

Nowadays we have lots of addictive distractions, often associated with modern cell-phone use, which is interfering with driver concentration. While one particular set of technologies is being developed (computer controlled cars) which could solve that problem, I'd like to suggest another way.

Get a horse and build an exoskeleton for it. It should be easy enough for such a large exoskeleton to carry a nice powerful engine, say 200 horsepower. This will make it easy for a single horse to pull most any modern personal vehicle (at a fast speed, too!) --no need to go back to old-fashioned (but lightweight) bone-jerking carriage designs. The main thing is, once again the horse could be allowed most of the control, in terms of safely reaching a destination, while the "driver" plays games or otherwise uses his or her cell phone.

When I first saw the Shrek 2 movie, I really liked that red "sports carriage". But the team of horses pulling it seemed wrong somehow. [Vernon, Dec 08 2015]

No doubt such enhanced horses will soon be racing each other at the track, but that is a different Idea.
