A Word Of Your Own

We'll build a word of our own, that no-one can pronounce...

With the English language now containing more than a million words... built, begged, borrowed and stolen, it's time you had your say.

AWOYO is a non-profit organisation that helps you develop, market and manage your very own word. Now, instead of hoping that your word will somehow catch on, AWOYO will actively pursue placement and inclusion for your word in all of the right places, be they medical journals or manga books.

With extensive contacts in the newspaper, advertising, marketing, television, editing and writing fraternities, AWOYO can promote your word through to listing in the OED or even further, to ensure your linguistic brainchild attains the immortality in print that it deserves.

Can we have a disease named after you ? Something unpleasant, painful and embarrassing, probably sexually transmitted ....

Or maybe "Bubitis", a massive inflammation of the ego ...

Wasn't this baked by "the artist formerly known as Prince"? I wonder if that symbol ever made it into any significant journal. I bet some college student wrote a thesis on it.

I'm bunning anyway as I want my word to be a new irrational number.

Gee, [8/7], I'd heard that Condyloma acuminata were named after you? Tell me it isn't true, old friend.

       Bubitis: priceless, pure brilliance.

When I studied dutch we were asked to make a poem, dutch sounding, made up entirely of nonexistent words. My first word was Podeliemboembiemba. Spoken in a dutch accent. This word still has a great value for me.

Gwinney Pig: Guinea Pigs that aren't from Guinea.

       Chineses: multiple Chinese people.

       PH 1: phone, get it?

       Porkins: fat people

Corto: office employee code-word for a corporate tool.

And I want a dollar every time one of those is printed.

Well, seeing as the OED proudly states their aim as "At least 1,800 new and revised words are released each quarter," - I'm sure this is just the logical next step.

Is it just me, or is setting a target for including X new words per year a little bit self-serving (not to mention harmful to the language as a whole)? I mean I'm all for evolution of the language as needs and or usage demands, but actually setting a goal for how much to change? That's bizarre.
