AllBlacks V England Nutcracker – Sweet

a new ballet based on the story of a rugby match.

a performance centred on the story of an international rugby match set in Twickenham. the story traces the fortunes of both teams as the score wavers first in favour of one team and then the other.

it portrays the skills of rugby players, (in what is a beautiful gruelling game – artistic and passionate in a brutal bloody way) with ballet, the discipline which teaches self discipline, correct body placement, strength, and gracefulness.

the dancers glissade across the stage during the magnificent tries, a releve movement during the lineouts and a quick pas de deux leads to a full scrum.

the dance of the sugarplum fullback is the highlight of the evening only matched by the rousing music interspersed with traditional rugby songs – the audience loves to join in with the rowdy choruses.

on a technical point, by stuffing lambswool into the points of the ballerinas shoes, can assist kicking power in that vital last conversion.

no performance is the same, a different finishing scoreline every evening and matinees on Thursdays keeps everyone happy.

I cannot imagine anything quite so unweildy as two International Class forward packs performing a pas de deux.

Second rowers are traditionally 200cm (6'8") and 120kg (265lb), front rowers around 185cm and 120kg.

Get all 16 of them in the air at once and they'd demolish the stage on landing.

Even the backs (small, fast men) are bigger than you think. Wendell Sailor is 6'4" and 240lb.

       + for the visual.

Complete with tutus in team colours, and leotards emblazoned with crass advertising no doubt?
madradish, Nov 09 2002

Flankers could do it. Nevermind them louts in the first and second row.
TBK, Nov 10 2002

thank you [farmer] - thats so nice.
po, Nov 10 2002

I would especially like to see flankers flanking under the skirt of Mother Ginger...[link]

FarmerJohn, I would like to see an illustration of that "Prima" as the one punted.

<bitter & twisted> You could also do a version of Swan Lake, with the England cricket team playing the swan as it lays down and dies about halfway through the show </bitter and twisted>

This sounds very familiar...I swear it's been used in an ad campaign.

       V. different idea but Nike had an ad in S Africa before the 1999 World Cup which opened with a bunch of Scottish runners, barefoot & dressed in white a la Chariots of Fire, trotting down a beach, then sprinting back in the other direction a few seconds later chased by Springboks.

Also. The reverse of sorts. American Express did an ad with Mikhail Barishnokov (sp?) playing air guitar in a Chuck Berry style duck walk while jumping off a dock.

But I can't remember the rugby ballet ad...

Thanx, I linked one on yours also.

Curry, it's "sweet". As in, that would be a sweet thing to see. Often pronounced "shweet".
UnaBubba, Nov 12 2002

sweet was deliberate - hot doctor, so there - clever clogs.
BTW chose the ballet with care too, for the *ouch* factor...

shame on you [Nick] I can just see you in tights.
po, Nov 12 2002

one would certainly consider a pas de deux with that person - bliss. but I do worry about your visualising male genitalia anywhere in that picture my dear. have you seen your optician lately? just a 10 minute check is so important..
po, Nov 12 2002

       Great drawing, FJ.
bristolz, Nov 12 2002

missing you FJ. well done Wales!
po, Nov 02 2003

Missed that. Shame the Welsh went down. They played a better game, on the night.
UnaBubba, Nov 02 2003

       Dodgy forward pass, too.
UnaBubba, Nov 02 2003

Howlett knew it was forward, but he took the points.
UnaBubba, Nov 02 2003

This reminds me of a Skit I have been threatening to choreograph at my community theater with for years now. The Big & Tall Men's Ballet.
