Anagrammatic surname succession

Do away with patrilineal surnames, and get some letters from each parent, instead.

Surname succession is mainly patrilineal in many countries, which seems a bit unfair.

Idea: when a child is to be named, take alternate letters from each parent's surname, and rearrange to form a new surname.

This will serve to remind them that just as their name is a combination of their parents', so also are their genes.

Mr Jones and Ms Smith might therefore beget a Ms Tome; Mrs Bloggs and Mr Public might have a Mr Bob-pig.

       Welcome to the Halfbakery, [Marnir].

This would certainly change courtship. Instead of wondering what your children would look like, you'd run the names of potential mates through anagram generators.

       Welcome indeed!

You've already passed the first test, which is correct grammar, punctuation and capitalization.

In fact, in my personal experience, if you get those things right you can get away with pretty much any old bollocks here.

As to the idea - I like the fact that it mimics chromosomal recombination and segregation.
