It would cancel the special equipment thing, but what if you just put a couple of really powerful magnets on the underside of the car? Put wires loops in roadways, and a simple hall sensor embedded in the pavement at the toll booth. Cars with the magnets can drive on through. Wire loops are probably a bit cheaper than piezo or turbines. A plus is that maybe in the winter time, electricty from the grid could be run through the wires periodically, to defrost the roads. Of course I kinda just took your idea and screwed it up. Sorry. + |

Wasn't the point to not have special equipment? |

Induction loops might work. They can be installed at the next resurfacing interval, in most roads. They can be laid very densely in the asphalt/concrete road surface, and double as reinforcing to reduce road wear. |

+ for an environmentally sensible idea. |

Does anyone know the current figures generated by a wire induction loop? |

I thought this was one purpose of gasoline taxes. No? |

I'll have to stay neutral on this one. There's not a toll booth within hundreds of miles of me as far as I know. I'm fairly sure that there aren't any in this state. |

The first system of electronic payments was devoloped in Portugal. It requires only a small box in the front windshield of the car and nothing else. It's associated to your bank account and makes the debit automatically. What could be better? The idea of gettng the electricity from the movement is good, but only while beeing a plus. |
