A lot of people who have vision plans sponsored by their company don't take advantage of them (because of time constraints in my case). A workable solution might be to pair up blood mobiles with eye care companies. The companies would pay the fuel and mechanical repair costs for the blood mobiles (a
public benefit) and in exchange get a chance to examine people who have nothing much else to do while their blood is being withdrawn. It would be a win-win-win situation. The cost of running blood mobiles would decrease, glasses/contact lens sales would increase, and some employees would finally get to see where they're working. The only hurdle we'd have to oversome is increasing the speed at which a vision screening can be done.

Actually, if you really want to reduce medical costs, you might include a full check-up for the variety of diseases that are much more easily treated when caught early. |

Not being particularly fond of needles, I haven't donated blood in the past. Donating it for the sake of keeping my vision (blood for my eyes) is how the idea got its title. |

hurdles: doing an eye-test prostrate; doing an accurate eye test on a squeamish person ( what do you see? Uh, stars!") ; getting volunteer nurses(canada) to administer eye exams etc. a benefit not mentioned would be the potential for increased donors as people may want the free exam. |

I have heard of mobile vision labs, but I don't think blood often makes an appearance there. |

Oh, c'mon longshot. It's not that bad. It stings a little, but the scrubbing of the area with the coarse sponge and alcohol beforehand is far worse to me. The interview is more painful than the needle. Seems like hours to do all the administrative stuff then they hook me up, I unload a pint in 4 to 5 minutes then off I go to the cookies and juice area. I hate it when all of the chocolate chip cookies are gone. |

I think the last donation was my 35th, so I do have a little credibility in this area. Nuthin' to it. And, some of the vampires are kinda cute and friendly if that does something for ya. :-D |
