Deep in the bowels of a car, hidden benaeth the floor, lies a powerful beast with the task of smoothly converting the output of the engine to an input to drive the wheels.
Meanwhile, inside the car one usually finds an expensive music translation device, attracting thieves and scoundrels, day and
night.
The alternative: multiple CDs, residing safely in a bath of mineral oil, safe from scratches and prying eyes in their metal cocoon beneath the floor, are also the plates of this unique automatic gearbox, doubling as torque converter and the heart of the car's sound system.

Savart's Wheel

We presume all the music would be from the Motown genre ? |
|
| |
Alternatively you may find that albums from the group R.E.M. are eminently suitable for this type of gearbox, especially if fitted to a Volkswagen. We specifically have "Automatic for the People" in mind .... |

Thank you for the image of a CD in an oil bath, [MB] |

I can see that the recent punfest has
infected this area too. Datsun awful
shame. |

Hah! Revenge is a dish best eaten cold. |

Are you sure you're not thinking of
gazpacho? |
|
| |
You may be right...I've eaten gazpacho. It was difficult to tell it apart from revenge, as I recall. |

A built-in automotive sound system, where the friction plates of the automatic transmision are also CDs in the player/stacker. |

Tell us more about the properties of mineral oil with respect to the transmission of 780nm semiconductor laser light... |

.... and large amounts of torque. |

"Torquing, torquing, torquing, happy torque. Torque about the things you like to do..." |
|
| |
I don't really care about the properties, blah, blah, blah... the idea is about the similarity between a torque converter and a CD changer. |
|
| |
No torque converter I've seen has plates; this sounds more like a wet clutch? Look out for miniscule bits of transmission clutch dust. |
