This could start as a plan for architechtural remediation of cities based on the way bodies recover from non-lethal diseases. I am guessing that sores and other strutural features of diseases are built by the diseases for the same reason highways and buildings are built by people, as a cheap and easy way of getting resurces around when you are not thinking of the big picture.

So figure out how the body and a non-lethal but incurable disease come to terms to remediate sores and other structural disagreements and base your city planning on that.
