Car Lane

A special lane for cars.

Driving an automobile on an ordinary road is a dangerous proposition. Traffic, wildlife, pedestrians, and cyclists clutter the landscape. Toxic fumes choke the lungs of all.

Yet many people choose to convey themselves in this manner, so it becomes incumbent on us, the public, to ensure their safety.

I propose a series of "Car lanes", initially separated from other traffic, pedestrian, equestrian, bicyclical, and other more modern modes of transit by large concrete barriers. Over time, glass enclosures can gradually be built over the top of these lanes to ensure that the toxic clouds produced are enjoyed solely by those who choose to produce them.

Certainly these routes will not be as extensive as the road system current law permits cars to travel upon, but the common safety and convenience outweighs the concerns of a few people clinging nostalgically to an outmoded form of transit.

Perhaps someday economic progress will allow mass production of quality bicycles at a price everyone can afford, but for now, we must look out for those reduced to internal combustion any way we can.

Can you build your lanes with only the use of cars?

If I'm understanding this correctly, we have something similar on US route 91. It's really a car-pool lane, where there must be 2 or more people in the car. It is to the far left of the other lanes, separated by a no drive lane and designated by diamond shapes painted in the center. (sometimes referred to as the *diamond lane*) Only cars may use this lane and cannot cut back onto the highway until that lane ends, which is many miles.

If I'm understanding this correctly, it's a satirical piece about the frivolousness of bicycle and carpool lanes, when the economical solution is simply to use these lanes for cars (carpool or not).

       Do I get the prize?

Maybe an above ground tunnel is what you are looking for.

I like the idea of factory equiping all vehicles with rocket launchers, and at the DOL you get your liscence to kill at the same time you get you drivers licence.

And before your thinking that would be evil, imagine all the extera donated organs there would be.

Almost Cuit, the correct answer was the economical solution is Bicycles. Bicycles. So close.

       See last paragraph.

This, my friend, is a GOOD idea. Even if it was intended simply to be dryly humorous. And I call you friend because I have no reason to think you don't like me, and also because I like your thinking here. The only problem with the glass enclosures is, car engines may eventually cause the built-up gas to, I don't know....blow up..... You know. But that's a risk you take, driving a car. This way, the gas kills the driver directly, instead of killing the driver's decendants. Nobody seems to care about their decendants.

You can slowly phase out cars with this idea! Bikes are so much cheaper, anyway. I say, [+]. I would say [++++++], but I can't. Dang.
