One of the things that really gets our imaginations fired up is the thought of a gigantic, slimy squid crawling surreptitiously over your body while you sleep... but this idea really isn't about that at all.

This is an air cannon, at your local fishmarket. When you doff your lid to bid for a squid be certain that winning the bid will see the cannon loaded with squirming, wriggling tentacles that are then launched at you, as the winning bidder at the Octopus Auctions.

//really gets our imaginations fired up is the thought of a gigantic, slimy squid crawling surreptitiously over your body // - who are these people ("our imaginations") and why are they thinking about squids crawling over my sleeping body?

       <frowns in [UB]'s general direction>

Jinbish, Feb 05 2008

Kudos to [JinBish] for mentioning that there did not seem to be a squid gun on the HB.

UnaBubba, Feb 05 2008

Didn't some other "throw squid at people" idea just get MFDed? Seeing as you seem to be envisioning live squid (I don't believe dead squid are known to squirm, whatever the reaction of the onlooker), I'm going to echo that [marked-for-deletion] cruelty to animals.

DrCurry, Feb 05 2008

So, to summarize, the proposal is for a cannon to launch auction-bought fish at the winning bidder?

I can see several drawbacks to this. I'd write them all down, but I feel a haddock coming on.

MaxwellBuchanan, Feb 05 2008

Squid in a cannon. There's something perfect about that.

baconbrain, Feb 05 2008

Why would it be cruel to give squid (arguably among the more intelligent of sealife) a little fun before dunking them in boiling water and eating them, [DC]?

UnaBubba, Feb 05 2008

[Loads up blunderbus with ailing cephalopod, and yells at creditor "Here's that sick squid I owe you".]

Why does tentacle rape come to mind?

Shadow Phoenix, Feb 06 2008

       Tentacle rape?

UnaBubba, Feb 06 2008

There was certainly an "Octopus Gun" previously on the HB as it is referred to in 13acEkyedAngel's profile.
I seem to recall an illustration as well.

gnomethang, Feb 06 2008

       I searched.

UnaBubba, Feb 06 2008

// tentacle rape // No, they just want a cuttle.

[Shadow Phoenix] You've been watching too much prawn. Or maybe Bond films.

marklar, Feb 06 2008

I can't top that one - going back to work now.

normzone, Feb 06 2008

       [marklar], you're Kraken me up!

UnaBubba, Feb 06 2008

I seem to recall a shoulder-mounted Koi cannon, or octopus-filled guantlet to throw down. Hurling fish-lies is not original, but has a mild affinity on Halfbakery.

Dashing one another with squid would be like a public display of egestion. Thinking of that gives me a weird feeling, like watching 'Cloverfield'.

reensure, Feb 07 2008

"Honey, don't look now...but there are snails on your plate...and, quite honestly, I think there is a squid on your shoulder...(sounds of vomiting in Blisterbob's hangar).

       A very high calamari weapon
