Chainring Fan

Fan blades in the chainring keep pantlegs away.

Most utility bicycles have a chainguard to protect the chain and to keep one's pant leg from becoming stained by oil.

Other bicycles, however do not readily come with chainguards. Performance cycles such as mountain bikes, racing bikes, and freestyle bikes are best not equipped with such things as chainguards, kickstands and finely ribboned baskets.

An almost imperceptible modification to these cycles, the Chainring Fan, will protect pant legs from getting caught causing accidents or unsightly stains. This modification has the chainring manufactured with fan blades instead of regular supports which direct wind outwards as one rides blowing the pant leg away from the chain.

Until this catches on, plastic blades can be purchased for this purpose to modify already existing bicycle chainrings. Never again will a person have to tuck their chain-side pant leg into their sock, forgetting to take it out before an important engagement, precipitating a chain of socially disastrous events.

Won't it suck in the pant leg from the other side?

Ha! Perhaps if one is wearing flares.

[+] For the concept but I don't think the chainring will rotate fast enough. I think you'll need some extra gears or belts to speed up the fan. Extra complexity and clean trousers are both winners for me.

Why would you be wearing loose pants whilst riding a performance bicycle?
