Change Additive in Municipal Water Supplies

Go With The Fluo; Next Stop, Laffy Cola

Most major municipalities in North America, as well as many English speaking countries, commonly add Fluoride to the public water supplies to reduce tooth decay. In Continental Europe, not so much. It seems odd to me that these municipalities would concern themselves with just one aspect of human frailty, while disregarding all the rest. I propose discontinuing this practice immediately and instead use the injection mechanism for a different product beginning with the same four letters: Fluoxetine. The incidence of tooth decay may rise somewhat, but it will be a boon to the dental industry. Millions of people will experience a brighter outlook, if not a brighter smile. Some cities, particularly on the left coast of the US, may also wish to add nitrous oxide to their injection systems (if it isn't happening already). Later, other commercial enterprises may spring up, marketing products like Laffy Cola, using this public water source in their bottling plants.

Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.

There has been serious suggestion of adding lithium to drinking water. Apparently low levels of lithium in drinking water decreases suicide rates.

It might also be easier to convince the public that adding lithium (rather than Prozac) to the water is a good idea since lithium laced water already naturally occurs in places where there is granite in the catchment area.

Justifying the addition of Lithium on the basis that it occurs naturally in some places is nonsense.

Asenic occurs naturally around volcanoes, Cyanide is excreted by a range of aquatic organisms (and is released by the decay of some kinds of water pipe).

Proposals to add anything to mains water will be massively unpopular and unworkable. Quite apart from the 'Big Brother' implications, there is no control of dosage. Some individuals never drink tap water, others drink it all the time.

Big, smelly fishbone of the kind you wouldn't want to find in your water supply.

You forgot to sanitize the water with the addition of 5% ethanol.

Why not let the invisible hand of the free market control the public water supply? As we all know, the free market never fails! (/sarcasm). The gubmint could auction off portions of the water supply to the highest bidder.

Then you'd have the tobacco lobby paying a few billion to add nicotine, the sugar lobby could add glucose, the soft drink lobby could add a blend of coke, pepsi, mountain dew, and red bull...

       Imagine the possibilities!

You mean to say that people drink the stuff that comes out of the faucet in other times than emergency?
