Chimps Whistling Free Bird

A video project to accompany the popular song "Free Bird”.

One of my secret “will never happen” fantasy projects involves creating a video accompaniment to an instrumental version soundtrack of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” (a popular song).

In this video, all around is dense greenery and we see a group of chimps, foraging, idly bending over branches to bring leaves closer, etc. One chimp starts whistling the intro organ line, then another takes over whistling the guitar line, and others add bits of guitar whistling where appropriate, and yet another whistles the vocal line.

This continues, with each instrumental component of the original song replaced by whistling chimp action (including drums, from slapping).

By the time of the complex multiple lead guitar outro, almost all of the chimps are involved in a chorus of whistling the parts. When the song ends, they quietly resume foraging, twig bending, etc, and the insects chirrup in the background.

I’ve had Free Bird on my playlist for years, and each time it comes up, and my mind wanders, it’s always the chimps video that plays in my head.

This would not be as funny but much more doable with people. It would have echos of the volkswagon commercial where the worl dwas in sync with the wipers, and maybe also Stomp. The success of this project would set the stage for the chimps.

Can't wait to hear the simian solo...

[+] Could you be convinced to realize this project?

//good on drums// No, the drummer should be banging on something with a femur. At the end, he tosses it casually over his shoulder, and it goes in a high arc, spinning, end over end .... (Pay no attention to that [IT], follow your muse.)

Can chimpanzees whistle? I think that's the first question that needs answering here.

I have a similar recurring mental image, only with a different song and a different animal. And they're not whistling... so really, it's not that similar after all.

First I was like, "YES," [+], then I was like, "you know, that would be trivial to simulate with computer graphics," [ ], then I was like, "that will soon be simulated with computer graphics, for a TV commercial advertising laxatives" [-].

       Still, [+].
