Cigarette Extinguisher
A sign of the times

With the rise of anti-smoking legislation worldwide, a new class of criminals has arisen... smokers.

Lighting their noxious little psychological crutches in inappropriate places has become very popular, it seems. Young men, especially, appear to have taken it upon themselves to flout the new laws and live dangerously.

The Cigarette Extinguisher looks just like a cigarette lighter, but there the similarity ends. You depress the lever and a jet of pleasantly scented, non-carcinogenic, harmless flame retardant is expelled, dousing the offending item and rendering it impossible to relight.

Sport:Hunting, because it could become a national pastime.

an excellent idea. i suggest you make a prototype and go out and test it...only don't be surprised if any of your victims decide to test their "fist-shaped-nose-flatteners" on you at the same time!

We used to just throw glasses of water over my dad. Stopped him soon enough, even when we didn't actually manage to put out the cigarette.

       [ivanhoe], you haven't met me.

No-one wants to know what I'm going to use as a flame retardant?

Sounded like water to me, pleasantly scented.

Use gasoline in a squirt gun and you won't have to be afraid of (immediate) retaliation. The smoker will be too busy looking for a fire extinguisher.

You will have to use a real cheap gun made of polyethylene. Those don't have an internal mechanism, you just squeeze the whole gun. The more sophisticated guns have parts made of poly-styrene that dissolve in gasoline.

[UB] - Pressurized water*? Liquid nitrogen? Both are non-carcinogenic, and can be pleasantly scented...

*I mean *highly* pressurized.
