This minimalist restaurant table design would put a 2 foot piece of flexible sculptural armature wire sticking out of the middle of each table so that conversationalists would have something hands on to focus on and improvise with before the food arives. Template design could be a minimal flower so waiters would reset the shape before each new meal.

I would have thought so too. Playdough?

Better than shredding my napkin on the first date. But what if she's a psychiatrist? Ouch.

(then again, she's already found herself at a place with shredable napkins and a coat-hanger jutting out of the tapletop, so I guess it's all downhill from here).

You realize of course there are folks who would feel the need to express their opinion about the service by creating the one-finger salute.

It sounds like a good extention/variant on the commonly seen idea of paper placemats with crayons.

A restaurant with an art theme would go great with the combination of these two. However, might I suggest three wires? And of course, fairly durable wire would be needed, just in case.

I like this idea and would visit a resturant that had any kind of interactive center-peace. The wire version would fit with the modern decor of most trendy resturants today.

Why not just have tv sets so we can skip straight to dinner and dispense completely with the conversationalist part.
