Disposer Power Take-Off Centrifuge
Make a compost centrifuge require less connections.

Electric centrifuges currently exist that have a rotating mesh strainer that spins the water of out of the grindings of a garbage disposer. The electric connection for such a device can be a big pain, and current models have legs and take up most of the cabinet. While these can be inconvenient, many evironmental-friendly people wouldn't have it any other way.

Most modern disposers have an opening on the bottom for the insertion of a hex key in case of the jam. The socket is directly connected to the bottom of the motor.

I propose a centrifuge that bolts onto the bottom of the disposal, bolting into the holes originally meant to hold the bottom plate on. The shaft of the centrifuge extends up into the disposal's de-jam socket. This way, the strainer is powered by the disposal motor. There's another socket on the bottom of the centrifuge in the even of a jam. A simply U-connection in the plumbing would connect the disposal to the strainer. This strainer might be more convenient because it usues less electricity, is easier to install, and takes up less space. This would probably be a better option for disposers with slightly more torque A.K.A. not aparment models :)

Existing Strainer System; it's the fourth item down. [fogfreak, Oct 05 2004]

The issue here is not why people would buy a strainer. Electric strainers already exist. The idea here is a cheaper version of one of these strainers.
