Situation: I open two windows. In one window is a reference list scrollable with mouse. Another window is an input window for text (eg. Notepad or chat window).
Problem: I need that the mouse was active on the reference list window so that I could scroll it, and I need cursor in the Notepad window
so that I could type text. If I type text, the reference list window becomes inacive and I can't scroll through it. If I activate reference list window, it becomes impossible to type. So in order to type and scroll I have to be switching between 2 windows!
Solution: make 2 focuses. A keyboard (cursor) focus and a mouse focus so that it was possible to browse through other programs and various references while always being albe to type in to the main document.
In cases it is necessary to change keyboard focus, a doubleclick could be used. Been Suggested

Separating the keyboard focus from the mouse focus in Windows would cause way more problems than it would solve. It's easy enough to type things in the wrong place when popups pop up as it is. |

What you're actually dealing with is a poor user interface: your input window should be capable of controlling your reference window. This is a software issue, not an OS one. |

I suggested this a wee while back (albeit slightly different implementation). See link |
