How about a net of tiny explosive charges ? Throw it down and light the fuse .... then, like a Chinese Cracker, a rapid sequence of tiny explosions shatters the ice. |

Base the pyrotechnic composition on sodium or potassium chlorate and the resultant reduction products will have ice-melting effects, too..... and there will be the heat of combustion to add to the effect. |

I was thinking specifically of a box 4" x 24" (or whatever the width of the snowblower) which would ride 1/4" above the ground... probably wouldn't do anything to 6" of solid ice but hopefully will powderize the crap stuck to the driveway that everybody slips on. |
