This lawnmower would have two discharges, one in each side. Inside of a big plastic discharge chute, it would have a curved piece of metal. There would be a control slider next to the throttle for which side the discharge was open on. A setting in the middle would close both sides for a mulch function.
The discharges would be curved in such a way that, when in the "in" position, would match flush with the side of the mower. The device could also be rigged so that whenever an open discharge receives sufficient outward pressure (from a wall or something), the other side automatically opens.
(Later) It needs a bagging option for those individuals who like to bag their grass. It could simply have a back swinging door that attaches with a wingnut, and to use it, one simply has but to put the chutes in the "mulching" position and attach the bag normally. Yes, I have seen mower with rear discharges before.
PS: Round here, not many people collect their grass clippings. They don't rake them unless there is a huge amount that will still be there next time they cut. True, it might not be as beautiful, but it would take too much time.

Won't you then have to rake up all of the clippings? Why not use a bag? How is this more convenient? |

In the fifties there was a mower with 2 discharges and a handle that flipped completly over. Mow a strip, flip handle and continue without turning the mower completly around. 2 discharges, always blow clippings onto UN-mowed area, mower than re-mulches grass 2nd time. |
