Why on earth would you want that many gazelles anyway?

Expression Testing

The other science of words

Seems to me a lot of expressions don't really make much sense. I suggest a program of research into the veracity of commonly held expressions.

For example:

Give 100 participants each a barrelful of similar monkeys and rate how much fun they seem to be having with it.

Test the general public on how well they do shooting as many fish as they can in a barrel.

Empty a well and see if anyone misses the water.

I'm sure they're up to it. Or NIST (USA), or BIPM (France). [Detly, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Yep. You might be barking up the wrong tree, here.

Who determines the value of birds: 2 in the bush< bird in hand.

and does the cat really leave the bag? Don't cats like to be in the bag?

Can people really tell the difference between two fish-filled kettles?

...and just how hard is it really to herd cats?

I can positively confirm that wet dog really smells bad.

ISO would definitely be the organization to handle this. With the new truth in advertising movement in Europe (link) such research may even be required. If the manufacturer of a candy claims that its consumption takes you to seventh heaven that statement needs proof. Put 100 people into space suits and have them each pop a candy. 50 get the real thing, 50 get a placebo. Or should such experiments be done with rats? Do human scientists have access to rat heaven to verify the results?

The baby and I are taking the electroencephalograph and we're gonna be down at the topless bar doing some research into the degree and nature of confusion.

[dpsyplc] The baby gets hungry and you get horny. Anything confusing about that?

[Hippo] I can attest to the difficulty of herding cats. Consider that topic well and truly researched.
