Faster Food

Save time by not actually eating

Everyone wants to save time. When I saw the halfbakery item on saving time on cleaning your teeth I got to thinking how we can save about 1 - 1+1/2 hours per day each by not eating. ( NB Additional timesaving oportunity.. No-one will actually need teeth, ergo No cleaning)

Just set up an IV cannula somewhere convenient on your body and top up on nutrients at convenient points such as the train you catch to work.

Taste can be dialled into the food mix by adding brain trigger chemicals that "taste" like Roast Turkey with all of the trimmings etc.
Obesity could well be a thing of the past.
" Designer soup " will be a damned hot item in this future.
Yuppie millionaires will spring up overnight after finding a way to get gene therapy meals approved by the FDA.
The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) will now truly deal with Food and Drugs.

Now called The Artery, not The Eatery

I don't know about those "brain trigger chemicals", but purportedly if you put flavoring agents into the bloodstream, they'll osmose into your taste buds from the other side.

Is this a secret vampire plot to add nouvelle-cuisine variety to their diet? Mhh, bus driver infused with horseradish, mhh.

To what end are we saving time?

I mean, we are cutting enough corners with the current 'fast food' craze. What's next? Matrix-style programs for a our brains so that we don't have to think and learn? In other words, if you can't take the time to replenish your body well physically, how can you expect to nourish your soul?

What we need to do is spend more time eating slowly and well.

iuvare, if we save enough time during our lives we will each have a big bag of it left over when we retire. This we can sell to others at a handsome price (perhaps a handful of magic beans which will enable us to reach the sky. You might buy them from a man called Kevorkian)

Well there you go...I'm in. Plus 1 cast.

"How gracious of you", he murmured.

Doesn't actually save time. You can eat a pile of food pretty fast and it'll sit in your stomach till it's digested; to pump the same amount of nutrition directly into your veins, you need to run it fairly slowly, because your veins are built to carry blood rather than high-octane sludge. Sorry, we medical types are always spoiling the party...

Guess that's why even glucose IVs drip instead of squirt, huh? Never thought about it.

Timesaving was a result of doing your "eating" on the train, in the car, while you're having a shower etc.

You may notice a thick vein of irony ore running between the more serious strata of this idea.
UnaBubba, Jun 05 2001

Oh, you could eat while you sleep. D'oh. And I thought I did detect some irony pyrite...
Dog Ed, Jun 05 2001

Irony? Duh! This idea cracked me up. See link above for the Slow Food website, representing "a movement for the protection of the right to taste." The scales are turning on this idea...
snarfyguy, Jun 05 2001

This idea would be better if it referred to motile hamburgers that you had to physically chase down and catch. I think that would be much more spiritually fulfilling than the "slow food" movement.

This reminds me of the Willie Wonka Chewing gum. What if it goes wrong and you turn into a giant blueberry? (+)
PinkDrink, Jul 17 2004

I have found that fast food is not as fast as I would like it to be. In fact it is just as slow as the other food I have been eating. Just goes to show all is not as it is promoted to be
