Faster hot water

A simple wire lets you have faster hot water

This would be a wire, about the same size as an outdoor extension cord, with a thermostat, that you would simply wrap around your hot water pipe. An extra-long cord that doesn't heat would be provided, so all you have to do is wrap it around the pipe, secure with the included velcro straps, and plug it in. Now you won't have to wait the three minutes it takes for the hot water to get from the water heater to the faucet.

Furriners: OSHA = Occupational Safety & Hazard Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor. Keep in mind, phat one, that we're in an international forum. I certainly wouldn't expect any non USAians to get your reference.

[gooberphat] In case you are interested, I was in Wal-Mart today, after I posted the idea, buying a heater, and I noticed that 3M now makes about 30 different kinds of this "heat tape" however I only think it works enough to keep the pipes from freezing.

[dbsousa], this is certainly a tankless job, but somebody has to do it!

I would think what with global warming the problem of not enought hot water will soon solve itself. As temperatures get higher we will just naturally be in hot water.

You can install a recirculating pump system with a thermostat that refreshes the water in the hot pipe if it gets less than hot. Been doing this for decades in your fancier homes. Uses extra energy, but after cycling the hot, then not using for a while, this wire around the pipe will take some time to heat the water in the pipe, so you'll get some cold sometimes.

And by the way, tankless hot water systems are able to serve an entire home (I have one, and it works really well), but without a recirculating pump, you don't get hot water at the tap any quicker than a tank heater.

Where they exist, many Bolivian hot showers (no, not a sex act per se, as far as I know) use a wall- switched electric heater girdle at the faucet, making for some of the whitest-knuckle showering this side of Psycho. For sufficient warmth, one must also typically turn the flow down to the slightest trickle.

The easiest way to have instant hot water is to use a product called “Hot Water Lobster Instant Hot Water Valve”. There website is www.hotwaterlobser.com .

Basically the Hot Water Lobster is a do-it-yourself solution (no electricicty required)that provides instant hot water as well as saving water and energy.

The Hot Water Lobster Instant Hot Water Valve is intended to create a closed loop within your existing hot water system. Any facets or showers along your hot waterlines (between your tank and the valve) will have faster hot water.

The thermal convection (warm water rising and cool water sinking), which takes place within your existing hot water tank, and the normal use of cold water create a higher water pressure on the hot water side of your plumbing system. This pressure differential circulates the warm water through your plumbing system.

When the hot water cools at the Hot Water Lobster Valve, the valve slowly opens allowing the cooler water to cross through the valve to the cold-water side of the plumbing. The thermal convection (within the hot water tank) draws the cooler water (from the cold water pipes) to the bottom of the hot water tank, while it forces the hotter water (from the hot water tank) into the hot water pipes. When the hot water reaches the valve, the valve slowly closes and stops the crossover flow of water. The cycle repeats when valve cools below the adjustable setting. Regular use of cold water (sprinklers, toilets and etc.) create a momentary low pressure on the cold water side of you plumbing system, which also helps circulate the water through the Hot Water Lobster Instant Hot Water Valve.

The Hot Water Lobster Instant Hot Water Valve does have a 30-day unconditional money back guarantee, which should provide you with adequate evaluation time in you plumbing system.
