well, you've got your multi-gigabytes of horse porn, pirated music, love-emails, IRC chats with "Deep Stoat", recipes for world-domination(unposted), etc. etc. etc. Now what do you do with all that to ensure that nobody ever finds it...
The "Faux-Discs" are a set of CD/DVD-R disks which are silkscreened
to look like AOL 14-day Trial discs, obsolete obscure Linux discs, Windows 3.0 and a medley of "Straight to Dumpster" Hollywood flops.

When your house gets raided by the Homeland Security folks, there's an intern who's thankless job it is to go through all your music, porn, and AOL discs. |

I had in mind guests, not stormtroopers... Nobody Expects the Department of Homeland Security. |

Windows came on a CD fifteen years ago? I installed mine with floppies. How about some kind of hidden partition or something? |
|
| |
Use an encrypted partition under Linux, with a really long pass phrase, and do not enable automount. |
|
| |
That way, anybody booting your computer will just see a normal startup. |
|
| |
<hint> Put some stuff where that partition gets mounted so that it does not look empty when it is not.</h> |

At last, somewhere for all my horse porn. Thanks, [Flying Toaster]. |

I was going to suggest hiding a small cd (or dvd) inside a floppy disk. If the disk were made thin and coated with an IR transmitting film (like the black areas from film negatives) then it would look like a floppy but could be read normally. |
|
| |
However, this made me think further. |
|

A writable CD is made up of a thin layer of ink sandwiched between 2 layers of plastic. If instead of ink could you use a magnetic material? By having a combination light-field writer you could in theory store twice as much information (0 or 1 in light and magnetic edge detection). |

Sorry to digress. Personally I am very proud of my horse porn and want to show it to anyone who is interested. |
