The army has its reasons for developing non-acoustic sensors but there's another reason for them that I haven't seen mentioned in any link yet. Have you ever been in the middle of a conversation, thought of something you wanted to add to it, and been sidetracked just long enough to forget what you were
going to say next? The 'Find Your Train of Thought' speech recorder would stop that from happening. Whenever you were about to be interrupted before having a chance to say what was on your mind, you'd silently mouth the words, politely letting the speaker continue uninterrupted. Once they were through speaking you could either recall what you wanted to say from your working memory or press a replay button on your earpiece (each tap on it would play back your last silent words in 20 second increments). Erm . . . you'd still be talking over top of them, even if you weren't making any noise. |

contracts - Not necessarily. A strategically-timed hand stroking your beard as if you're thinking about what they're saying while you silently mouth the words behind your hand would constitute a polite cover-up. |

This device might also be useful when you have to stop and ask for directions (not that we ever do). If the directions consist of several detailed steps that include landmarks and such, you could just repeat them to yourself and then play them back one at a time as you start to follow them. |

This seems as more an announcement of a new technology than an original invention. |

A bit of both I think. <link> |

bris - The original part of the idea has to do with how the new technology is used. |
