The world lost something special last week: Johnny Cash went the way of all flesh. Of lesser note, unless you're in Australia, Slim Dusty passed on, too. Anyway, here's a little tribute I wrote for one of the great Country/Blues/Popular singers of the last 50 years. I hope you like it. I called it
Fishbone Prison Blues... It goes like this...
I see the fishbone comin'
It's drivin' me 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen a croissant,
Since, I don't know when,
I'm stuck in Fishbone Prison,
And time keeps draggin' on,
But that Squirrel Cage Train's a-rollin',
On down to San Antone.
When I was just a newbie,
[StarChaser] told me, "Son,
Always show a little whimsy,
And you should see some buns,"
But I posted ideas about GM,
And magic cars that fly,
When I see the fishbone votes hit,
I hang my head and cry.
I bet that [FarmerJohn] is postin',
Another two point five,
About Spray-on Java Coffee,
Or Inflatable Freightcars,
But I know I had it comin',
I know I can't be he,
And those fishbones keep a-landin',
And that's what tortures me.
Well, if they freed me from this prison,
If those Dodgy Wind Chimes were mine,
I bet I'd do better, just a little,
Turn some water into wine,
Far from Fishbone Prison,
That's where I want to be,
Hey guys, just one tiny, lonesome croissant,
Would blow my blues away [link]

I'll walk the line - if someone explains what it means |

thanks UB, thanks johnny. |

Did you write that all at once, or One Piece at a Time? |
|
| |
We loved to have a dance with Dusty
Well, we loved to have a dance with Slim
He always had a song for us
And nobody sang them better than him. |

ooooh an in-joke is born. Hi Sue. |
|
| |
I've seen where Johnny Cash got his start. It's about 12 miles from my house. |
|
| |
You live near the prison? Wow! |
|
| |
Una, Dos, TresBubbas cheers! |
|
| |
The Man in Baklava so to speak. Though I think that may be stretching the pastry analogy a bit far. I like it though. |

A fitting tribute, UB. Better than my own little memorial, which consisted of drinking too much Jack Daniels with a few mates down the pub. Can't remember much of the evening, but I'm pretty sure I didn't shoot a man in Reno. More's the pity. |

//didn't shoot a man in Reno// |
|
| |
I might try one, about a Reno who looks like a man? |
|

You wait all year for a UB song and then two come along at once! I reckon Johnny's just about the most famous native american (or descendant thereof) there has ever been and certainly the only songster I've ever heard of. Good on him and "Pilamayan, Johnny!"
<aside> Can never help though, when hearing Ring of Fire, thinking about a particularly bad experience with a vindaloo... |

Cash was cool! Nice one 'Bubba.
As I logged on the bakery, one dark and stormy night
I checked the votes on my idea, and saw a dreadful sight
The bones outnumbered croissants, by more than ten to one
And in the annos column, a flamewar had begun.
Yippee-aye-o, yippee-aye-ai!
Halfbakerys on-line, today!
And so I changed the idea text, to cope with the critique
But still the bones kept piling up, the outlook seemed so bleak.
And admin soon provided, the daggers final twist
And m-f-dd the whole idea, and said it was a list.
Yippe-aye-o, yippe-aye-ai!
Halfbakerys on-line, today!
I begged for their indulgence, it didnt get results
Instead I was subjected, to even more insults
To my dismay, it multiplied the fishbones that Id scored
Ah well, it helps to pass the day. At least I wont get bored!
Yippe-aye-o, yippe-aye-ai!
Halfbakerys on-line, today! |

Anyday of the week, huh, [UB]? + |

You need only ask. I do them for parties, too. There must be, oh, fifteen minutes work here. |
