Garbage bags have a little problem: you need two hands on it at all times to keep it firmly open. And if you're trying to put leaves away in the fall by yourself, it's difficult to get the leaves in the bag before the top collapses and you have to fix it again.

A flexible metal tube, made of an easily flexed metal like thin tubes of copper or aluminum, can be set up around the top of the bag. When the bag is packaged, the tube is folded and it takes up no extra room. If you have the bag on a garbage can, you can adjust the tube to fit around your can. And if you're that unlucky gardener who just can't find good help, you can hold the bag with one hand without the top collapsing.

I've seen this baked, sort of, in a garden gadget tatalogue. You can get a plastic semi-rigid tube that slips into a bag, for loading garden refuse (or anything, I guess). However, it's the full length of the bag, so it converts it to a sort of stand- alone stand-up dustbin.
