There are times when I'm driving through particularly beautiful countryside and wish to take it all in. But that annoying rear-view mirror gets in the way, blocking out a substantial portion of the windshield. The mirror also frequently blocks my view of traffic lights.
So I want a rear-view mirror
that I can fold up, out of view. To ensure that drivers don't try to claim they didn't see the cop or ambulance behind them, it is equipped with a radar detector. The radar detector I use has a nice little feature that picks up emergency signals, as well. Such a device should ensure that nobody can claim they didn't see the vehicle behind them.
If a radar or emergency signal is detected, the mirror automatically lowers into viewing position.
I realize that radar detectors are illegal in some places. This is not for use in those places.

Yes, I know, but when you're on an open stretch of road that goes for hundreds of miles with little or no traffic on the road, like in Montana or either of the Dakotas, what exaclty are you looking behind you for? And you can still look behind you if you want or need to, just flip it down. |

Why would you want to look around anyways? I usually try to zip through as quickly as possible. |

I dunno, I like sight-seeing on road-trips. "Getting there is half the jouney" and all that... |

This also makes it easier for the person in the passenger seat to take pictures through the windshield. |

I agree with that philosophy in general, but not in northern midwest states. |

Then don't use it in northen midwest states. Nobody said *you* have to use it, but this enables those who do like the northern landscape (or the landscape anywhere, for that matter) to better enjoy it. |

Let's all just become compliant sheep, then. By the way, you're also "meant" to watch to the sides and be aware of *all* your surroundings in case a deer, cow, or other moving obstacle moves out in front of you, you can see it coming and move accordingly before it gets there. |
