This global warming seems to be a problem, and one we dont have an answer to. Studies have shown that placebos have positive, and shamanic medicine men have been able to cure some diseases at a more reliable rate than medicine science, people that are told to believe they are burning calories will have
faster metabolisms, that girls have a tendency to synchronize their periods with those of their friends (with admittedly no apparent benefit and water with words on the side of the bottle affect the quality of it as much as the source
The world seems to adapt to our will, perhaps if the planet agreed to acknowledge that it will be winter in Antarctica all year long, the polar ice caps would stay colder perhaps it wouldnt melt anymore.
It wouldnt take much paperwork and maybe a maybe a few public awareness campaigns. Perhaps it would be a pointless effort, but Im sure that wouldnt be on our minds when we are hip deep in water.

Quite counterproductive, as December is in Antarctica's summer. |

Last time I talked to Gaia she was suspiciously unresponsive. I think she's ignoring me. |

Perhaps if you stop stomping around on her belly all the time? |

Those emperor penguins are not going to like this. |

I think the period synchronization thing has to do something with attracting men. Say there was one primitive colony of women not synchronized all emitting different pheromones at different times, and another primitive colongy of women that were in sync, with all the women combining their sex pheromones at the same time. Which colony is more likely to attract a mate? |

The one closer to the liquor shop? |

No, the one with bigger icecaps. |

Honestly, I don't think this will work. For years now, halfbakery contributors have willed that good spelling, punctuation, and grammar should be employed in posts, and - well, see for yourselves. |

Ironically, I just finished reading Michael Crichton's _State_of_Fear_, which makes a good case that global warming is a belief, not reality, caused by public awareness campaigns. |

It may well be, [bb]. I note that Australia has been having remarkably mild, stable weather for about 300 years, compared to the period prior. It shows up in mud and silt content in coral reefs situated near river outlets. |

[phlish], in that vein, I'd like to see a study showing whether watching commercials for prescription & over the counter drugs has any influence on the health of those watching.
My gut feeling tells me that watching 20 flu & cold commercials a day can cause a reverse placebo effect and cause a person to develop a cold. Ban those adds! says I. |

I read recently of a large-scale trial of the effectiveness of different placebos. It was properly done and written up in a reputable journal. Among its findings were that an injected placebo is significantly more effective than a pill placebo (more preceived 'intervention'), and that green pill placebos are significantly more effective than red pill placebos. |

Just think about what would happen if this could work. When it's warm, lots of people wish it were cooler. When cold, the opposite. Each little nudge would be just like pushing on a playground swing. The oscillations become more and more extreme. In other words, we would get what we've got, so maybe it does work. |

watch out, Im visualising all of you covered in fish guts. |

I am still laughing at the fact that the word "necessarily" was actually used in this sentence. |

Guys, I've just got back from my rain dance. Did I miss anything? |
