When lightning strikes the earth it sometimes fuses the soil into a glassy solid, called a fulgurite. They are fascinating things. Some geologists collect them.
Rather than rely upon chance, I can imagine creating molds of unusual shapes; a man leading a llama, for instance, and filling them with
pellets of bronze or perspex then setting them in the ground.
Using the Benjamin Franklin method, entice a lightning strike to fuse the pellets together and then polish selected facets.
Voila! Quirky, beautiful artworks.
Who knows, maybe we could do one in the shape of a barbecue?

There's some Frecnh researchers that are triggering lightning by firing rockets trailing conductors into storms so that might be a slightly safer way to initiate one's artwork. |
