Game of life wallpaper
solar powered wallpaper that contains lcds and runs the game of life

I read recently that it may be possible to print-out circuit boards onto paper using a 3d printer.

Now if this could be developed further to allow you to print out solar cells and lcds (or some other colour changing substance), you would then have all the necessary components to print wallpaper cellular automaton.

I think such a constantly evolving wallpaper would be cool.

It might even be considered art. If it was big enough it would be like creating your own mini-universe. If the paper could be connected across neighbouring sheets you could end up with huge expanses of seething patterns

       Why electronic? Given that the Game of Life is supposed to loosely mimic the behavior of bacteria on a petri dish, why can't we embed actual bacteria in the wallpaper, and watch its progress and evolution?   

       [I did once live in a dorm, one room of which had rain forest type fungal growths sprouting from the walls, but I don't see that selling so well.]

       Who knows, maybe we might CREATE the 2-d virtual equivalent of bacteria. Sounds much cooler to me than boring old real bacteria.
