Users get a chance to actually make a prototype of their idea and compete in a science-fair-like friendly competition. The winner gets one of those cute frilly pink ribbons and maybe a patent to their invention.

here are some of the things I will be bringing to the fair http://amasci.com/amateur/toys1.html

       Who's funding this white elephant?

UnaBubba, Oct 15 2006

Making the prototype is sometimes the EASY part of a patent application.

Galbinus_Caeli, Oct 16 2006

Demonstrating prior art will invalidate a patent; the halfbakery itself (or Google's cache of it, or the Wayback Machine) will demonstrate prior art on any idea posted. If you've an idea you want to patent, you'd best keep it to yourself.

david_scothern, Oct 17 2006

Actually you have one year from your announcement to get the application in.

Galbinus_Caeli, Oct 17 2006

Got a link, [GC]? I'm interested as to how that is enforceable. (Also, what country are you in, and does that change the picture?)

david_scothern, Oct 17 2006

I've been told that the halfbakery itself does not count as prior art - because it can be edited.

fridge duck, Oct 17 2006

That sort of thing is largely dependant upon the jurisdiction in which you reside.

[fridge] I thought about that, hence the wayback machine reference, which cannot be edited.
