Half Bakery Knights

Remember how we got here ?

I remember doing a web search for something and not getting any results. I could hear the words of my father echoing in my ear "No one would want such a half baked idea!". I typed into the magic portal "half baked ideas".

Looking back, this was not a coincidence. It was part faith and part bloodline that led me here. It's as if I, we, were meant to be here. Now I'm not claiming we are all knights of a secret order, but there was a secret organisation called the Priory of Sion who were protected by the Templar Knights. The PoS ensured the propagation of certain bloodlines with highly intellectual traits.

Coincidence ? Look at the PoS emblem [link]. This clearly depicts 2 croissants, a bagel and a fish knife. The majority of us are still unaware of the significance of the extra bread product, but in time and [mfd] willing we will eventually earn the crust of the moderators. But until then our duty is to be custardians of dubious scientific knowledge.

Well you're at least half right... we're certainly custodians of a P.O.S, alright. But I don't mean Priory of Scion, if you catch my drift.

This was the only place where the very real issue of sail blimps was being discussed while I was researching for a project.

The issue of one-man, long range light concentration is similarly NOT covered anywhere on the entire internet, and sadly, the one guy that did try to cover it here was buried by the HB bias toward the new.

Again, it was one of few places attempting to tackle the issue. It is why I joined.

I was bored, googling about shuriken (ninja stars) - and got the link to the ninja star can opener. It was all downhill from there.

I was searching for information on how to make my first brainchild, Shield System. I don't remember what I typed into Google or even what the first HB idea I read was, but that's how I found it, and it was love at first sight. I was hooked instantly, and my only wish now is that I'd found it sooner. It would've been cool if I'd found this back in '99 when it first launched, but I was only 14 at the time and probably would've posted a bunch of rubbish. On the other hand, it would've been a valuable learning tool to help me get through highschool. All in all, I'm glad I found the HB when I did, less than a month before I was discharged from the military and my life took a downhill plunge that I'm only now starting to reverse. This place has really been a rock of sanity for me in a sea of uncertainty, change, and disappointment.

Rock: Petra, as in Matthew 16:18

"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church"
neelandan, Apr 30 2009

I was thinking of posting something very similar to this just now.
I've probably said this somewhere else on here, but anyway...I don't remember my very first encounter with the HB, but i know how i ended up here. I did searches for various things and found that they very frequently led to this site. At first, i didn't notice, but it was spooky, like the needle getting stuck on a record. I just got sent here over and over again by whatever search engine i was using and i basically couldn't escape. It still happens. I frequently Google subjects and get directed to the Halfbakery when i'm actually trying to escape. It's utterly weird.

The first idea I read was the Whoopee Suit. I have no idea what I could possibly have been searching for.

For me, this place is the opposite of a rock of sanity, (no, not a gas of madness), it's a sanctuary away from the sensible, the mundane, the predictable.

[Nineteenthly] I remember searching for something and one of my own ideas came up. I couldn't see the connection, but clearly Google could.

Transatlantic Custard Pipeline by [lurch] which led to Custard Filled Speedbumps by [riposte]. The less said about that sequence of events the better. However, it is difficult to navigate away from a repository that holds those specific gems in its cache.

I will never forget my first day! I was on Rob Breszney's Astrology site and clicked a link that said, " create new swear words" ~ SO I posted a bunch of swear words on my profile page, not knowing how the hb worked!! I laughed so hard when I figured it out. +

Are they still there? Oh yeah...I guess I could go look...;-)
blissmiss, Apr 30 2009

I usually find my thoughts are to weird for everyday life/conversation. I stumbled upon the halfbakery and I'm still to weird, get fishboned and misunderstood all the time. I see a pattern here, but it cannot possibly be me that's wrong. Still, if this place is open enough to accept me, it must be some kind of wonderfull.

On the idea: Yes by all means, let me be a secret knight in a secret society. If I don't attack the windmill, who will?
zeno, Apr 30 2009

       //If I don't attack the windmill, who will?//

       Don Quixote? Sancho Panza?
21 Quest, Apr 30 2009

       Exactly.
zeno, May 01 2009

Hey, windmills are making a comeback, only they're disguised as wind *turbines*. As they proliferate we'll obviously need more knights to tilt at them, so count me in.

       <ponders the title Sir Canuck...>

I found this place while searching for Silent Velcro. I lurked for weeks before I got brave enough to post. These days I might not visit as regularly as I used to, but I keep coming back because it feels like home.
Canuck, May 01 2009

       // it feels like home//
I shudder to imagine your /actual/ home, [canuck]
AbsintheWithoutLeave, May 01 2009

Absinthe, he lives in Canada. 'Nuff said.

By the way, I'll sign up, too. Those new windmills are tall and skinny, too, so they'd probably be easier to topple.
21 Quest, May 01 2009

// the Neighbour of the Beast.//

Hey now, wait a second... are you implying that I have bad breath?
21 Quest, May 01 2009

Hold on a minute, [canuck], does that make you a fan of 'Garden State'?

//Absinthe, he lives in Canada. 'Nuff said.//

I fear a duel is in order. I mean a joust I guess.
blissmiss, May 01 2009

       mmmmmm .... gas of madness
batou, May 01 2009

If a duel be called for, then let it be settled tomorrow. High noon at the Veritable Quandary! (12:45, actually)
21 Quest, May 01 2009

Oh that's right. Hey...I have a couple horses you could borrow. Hmmmm. Armour now that is a little more difficult to procure.
blissmiss, May 01 2009

I'll bring some phonebooks and lash them together into a wearable vest, along with some trashcan lids for shields. Mine will be emblazoned with a large "21?" and Canuck's with a large portrait of Dudley Do-Right. My helmet visor, of course, will depict a demon's face with one eyebrow raised inquisitively.
21 Quest, May 01 2009

Bloody typical! You start a secret organisation and already people are jousting for power. Next you'll be wanting uniforms and name badges.

<wanders off humming "knights in white satin" />

It's the Americanish in us. It makes us do it. Sorry.

Badges!? We don't need no stinking badges!

I don't really recall but I think I was searching for Vacuum Spheres. Must have been exactly the right time to search because ideas of this type usually get deleted fairly quickly.

I was kind of already here just waiting for jutta to make this place so I could learn just how little I really knew...and still don't know...and may never get to know...

Dub, it also seems like quite a few HB'ers are stuck in an idiom.

Yes, I was fiddling about with monickers handles trying to fit them to metre
