In addition to posting text annos, record what you're saying (your actual voice) in a soundbyte so somebody clicks on a link and hears what you have to say.
Not everybody has a microphone or compatible equipment. No problem, you still post text annos, but if you have the right equipment/software,
the option for voice-recording is available.
So if you have the capability to play soundbytes, you read it first, then listen to the poster actually saying it so you know what tone and context is intended.
If you don't have the capability, you're not losing anything you don't currently have because you still read the text like normal.

Of course the problem then becomes
how to match up the link with audio to
a particular annotation. So let me
propose a more generic solution: Add
metadata to annotations. |

When annotating an idea, the user may
add links to media files. If the link is an
image, the annotation would provide a
thumbnail linked to the image. If the
link is audio, it would provide a
handsome embedded player control.
And why not allow video too? |

uploading the files; they are responsible
for supplying their own hosting. |
