  [vote for,

Now *you* can 'Own It All' with Halfopoly, the vote hungry, family game. Imagine landing on the 'Film Noir Home' with an 'Annotation' Hotel! Wonder why your opponent always buys up the four 'Catagories'. Think hard to acquire the utilities, 'Search' and 'Tagline'. Cross your fingers as you land on 'Croissant' and take a risk with the 'Fish' card. Make sure you don't land on 'Off Peak Only', or you'll be going directly to 'Offline', do not pass 'Overview', do not collect '200jta'. Tokens such as 'PeterSealy' will be argued over. Remember, you can't all be 'UnaBubba'.

[To order your own 'User' tokens simply create a dicast mould, molten metal and pop it through the post and it will be returned to you shortly]

       'Croissant' cards replace 'Community Chest'
[ sctld ], May 19 2001

I'd say it'd have to be Susen, as she's the only one who's shown any inclination to share at all...<grin>

Properly, it should be Jutta, but I fear saying that out loud lest I be smited. <Smit?>
StarChaser, May 19 2001

Well, smitten might be the term....
globaltourniquet, May 19 2001

StarChaser....I'm not sure rolling around in monopoly money would have the same effect.... <grin>

waugs: Go directly to "tropical vacation - forever!" Do not pass globaltourniquet. Do not collect 200, errrrmm 200,000,000 "New American Currency" units. Oh no it's too horrible to contemplate.

       Can I be the half-a-sports-car?
st3f, May 21 2001

Sure, and you see the insides and its true 'Hybrid Engine'.
[ sctld ], May 21 2001

The chance, sorry 'Croissant' cards should all have a diferant slogan. For example the you inherit 200 pounds could have "2 crumbs up"...
RobertKidney, Jun 28 2001

[UnaBubba], I believe "smote" is imperfect, and [globaltourniquet]'s "smitten" the past participle which should be used with "be" as in [StarChaser]'s post. Incidentally, [StarChaser]'s "smit" is also a rarely used alternative to both forms.
jabbers, Aug 23 2001

       They would have smut.
hippo, Aug 23 2001

       They would have been smutting.
PotatoStew, Aug 23 2001

This gets worse... I think we should have pedant and WIBNI cards instead of chance...
RobertKidney, Aug 24 2001

The different areas could be marked by different illustrations.

Christmas last year there was a 'make your own monopoly' set in the shops... I wonder if you can still get it?
moomintroll, Jun 20 2005

This was originally my idea of course, but [ sctld ] seems to have stolen it from my brain and travelled back in time to post it long before I had even heard of the halfbakery. Anyway, I didn't let that stop me baking it, so here for all your amusements is a Halfopoly board.

The first link is a picture of the board. Go on, click it now... Like it? Want one? Well then, right click on the second link and select "Save Target As..." and save it to your desktop or somewhere. That file is the full size board (50cm x 50cm, 180dpi) as a high quality jpeg. You can take it to your local print shop and get it printed onto a big sheet of paper.

Don't have a local print shop? Can't be bothered to go to one? Then download the next four files. They contain the board in four quarters, each small enough to be printed out on an A4 printer, cut to size and assembled into a 39cm x 39cm board. After that is a link to Steve DeGroof's instructions on how to make a fold-up board game using card and tape.

I also have a 300dpi tiff of the 50x50 board, but you'll have to email me if you want that, it's 60Mb.

I haven't bothered to do Croissant/Fishbone cards - you'll have to make them up yourself. If anyone makes some good ones, please let me know and I'll post them somewhere.

Many thanks to Bristolz, FarmerJohn, Steve DeGroof and Hob for the pictures.

       Enjoy!
wagster, Oct 02 2005

That's really special. I hope all those croissant values were correct at the time of printing.. ;)
moomintroll, Oct 02 2005

Most were considerably higher, although several featured ideas have been deleted.
wagster, Oct 03 2005

That is very impressive [wagster]. Now all we need is someone to come up with a series of cast-iron models of users for the pieces.
hidden truths, Oct 03 2005

And someone to come up with a printer that can print in cast-iron.
hidden truths, Oct 03 2005

       beautiful artwork!
dentworth, Oct 03 2005

You could have positive and "negative" money (e.g. buns and fishbones). Your net assets are your croissants minus your fishbones. Everyone starts with 1500 croissants but as you incur debts/etc. you end up accumulating fishbones too. "Poor" people have very few positive dollars but a ton of fishbones piled in front of them that they cannot get rid of.
phundug, Oct 03 2005

How _would_ you get rid of fishbones?
moomintroll, Oct 03 2005

If only monopoly wasn't such a dull, dull, dull game.
Loris, Oct 03 2005

[moomintroll] - if another player landed on one of your ideas, then you can give him fishbones instead of him paying you rent. After all, his idea is redundant :)
phundug, Oct 03 2005

Nicely done, [wags]. A big layout challenge!

Get it while it's hot (and before the cease and desist letters arrive).
bristolz, Oct 03 2005

Wow, May 19th, 2001. That was such a long time ago.
[ sctld ], Oct 03 2005

       This idea has baked itself.
dbmag9, Nov 30 2005

No it hasn't. We still need pieces, community chest and WIBNI cards (can't remember what they were), banknotes designed, etc., etc. Plus a box! And hurry up, Christmas isn't far away.
moomintroll, Nov 30 2005

       Excellent work, wagster!
DrBob, Dec 01 2005

       Churn churn churn...

Yeah, wagster, where's our cards? And money? And the box? And we haven't even planned the pieces. I want the little metal croissant.
dbmag9, Jan 09 2006

I was going to do cards but I ran out of time/impetus. Submit the text to me and I might do them... In fact I haven't even really finished the board - I'll fix it if anyone actually notices what I've left off.

As for the pieces, does anyone here make those little lead D&D figures? Surely you could make some up with that stuff? Or we could all be orcs and gnomes or whatever.
wagster, Jan 09 2006

How about a piece of paper with three to four numbers on it? A tumbleweed (from the dispenser)? A roadcone?
dbmag9, Jan 10 2006

For personal reasons I'd favour a pineapple ;)
moomintroll, Jan 10 2006

The board is beautiful, it makes me want to sit in a corner and cry, because I can't have an actual set made by Parker Brothers for me.
DesertFox, Jan 10 2006

For obvious reasons, all of the player pieces should be roadcones.
DrBob, Jan 11 2006

I love board games, and this certainly would be fun and amusing.

For me it would be even more enjoyable if the idea boxes were blank with set values; the cards had either a fishbone or croissant on one face for +/- value and an invention on the other side -- laid down on a panel that matches its value to take that space. Cards would be bought for placement using a total of fish bones and croissants. Ideally both types of inventions would tend toward the intentionally amusing for their positive or negative value (positive for funny - negative for dark humor), which would lend itself best to illustrations. Advantages I see in this alternate format: 1) its more removed from monopoly in its methodology and therefore could resist more copyright run-ins; 2) uses an open-ended pool of cards/inventions (the site changes all the time); 3) minimal sets of different cards to simplify set-up, play and production.

Winning with this format can be set to whoever has the most positive or negative (either extreme) value in spaces after all have been bought up. I'm working on a couple of board games right now, so let me know if I can help out in this endeavor. A card could even have a zero value (it would still take up that plot of boardspace).
Whirligig, Apr 20 2006

I must have overlooked something...I don't see Pirates anywhere.

As for making lead based pieces - Reebok seems to have done it recently.
sleeka, Apr 20 2006

       <churn to replace crash-induced buns> [+]

and this is the first time seeing almost all of the brilliant ideas on the gameboard <links> [wags] you rock.
FlyingToaster, Dec 15 2009

Wow, nine years later, it's like an anvil fell on my head. Why, oh why did I not know about this? What a beautiful board, waggie. And a great idea by the now defunct sctld?
blissmiss, Dec 15 2009

       Can't see the board!
daseva, Feb 22 2011

I have it all on a CD somewhere. Finding it is another matter of course.
