Sleep shares many similarities to death, at least superficially. Bodily processes slow down or turn off, there is little responsiveness, and in both cases a person lies down in a bed.

Bed of course comes from the Welsh meaning 'grave', which is found in Beddgelert, Wales; literally, 'the grave of Gelert'. Naturally, the connection between the grave and the bed as we know it should be strengthened.
