The hand swung up over the fat man's head again, gently wiping a spot of Bolognaise suce from one lens of his spectacles, then retreating behind his head again. It re-emerged, holding a small square of cloth, and began busily cleaning the folds and crevices of his right ear. Throughout this ordeal the man seemed totally oblivious, even when it wiped a dribble of tomato and beef mince from his chin and dabbed at the corners of his mouth.
