Hindenbombs

The hydrogen filled airship returns with a vengeance....

Everybody knows that the public lost confidence in airships with the tragic loss of the hydrogen filled Hindenburg (along with many other tragic airship losses). Well, throughout history airships have been used for two things, really, transportation of civilian people and also for military operations involving a crew of people (surveillance, dropping submarine depth charges, clearing mine fields, etc).

What I propose is using remote control hydrogen airships as slow moving air to surface bombs. I believe that these silent wake-less airships are so quiet that they could sneak attack just about anything that is sleeping at night (no helicopter noises, no jet engines, just a silent electrical fan) and then light up the ground with a giant loud hot fast explosion that is sure to vaporize the place in a matter of seconds.

!!!!!!HINDEN-KA-BLAMO!!!!!! ---you're toast!

One thing, not sure how much damage this would cause. You're burning lighter than air fuel above ground, and hot air rises. Isn't everything going to be burnt up before it lands on the enemy's tents?

And these days what enemy of America sleeps in tents anyway? The American arsenal is more than equipped to deal with militants in large open spaces, like deserts, where they can see the enemy, have bigger guns and thicker armour. The problem for the American military arises when the enemy is hidden amongst civilians like in Iraq at the moment, or in a jungle evironment where they can't use tanks.

I'd be surprised if the the 'ol military hasn't tried this.

How's about airships with lasers? kinda reverse EAGLE project(Evolutionary Air and Space Global Laser Engagement Airship Relay Mirrors, try saying that after a few drinks) Then you could drop satellites on them.

Too cheap. There is much more profit in munitions that require extensive manufacturing, support and delivery systems like satellite guidance, stealth, etc.

This reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers where he runs someone over with a steamroller. There should be a treaty that says you are not allowed to shoot them down but you have time to evacuate a city before this thing hits.

"Incoming!!!" "Alright love. Pick the kids up from school will you, I want to catch the end of Oprah."
