With a swift, plunging motion of his hand Roland seized the rodent. Taking care to avoid the wicked, yellow incisors, he rolled the large Rattus norvegicus over and examined its hindquarters. With a flick of the wrist he tossed the rat into the drum with the two others he had identified.
210 rats
later he had finished. He peformed the same check on the four he had kept aside, selecting one giant, wriggling monster with red, baleful eyes and a powerful odour.
Holding the tail to one side, Roland stamped the posterior of the rat against a rapidly-setting tray of polymer resin, repeating the process 119 times.
Tomorrow was the moment of truth. Would novelty stores be willing to take on his stock of 120 moulds of the ugliest rat's arse in existence?
