Illusion Bikini

Bikini with Transparent Straps

Have you ever seen one of those 'illusion necklaces'? If not, here's how it works: it's basically a loop of fishing line with beads (gems, pearls, etc.) suspended on it, and glued or clamped so they don't slide around.

Now take that fishing line, suspend bikini pieces from it, and voila! Illusion Bikini!

(???) Baked for bras and thongs http://amos.catalog...rd=6483722&ccsyn=27
There appear to be actual bikinis with transparent (silicone, appropriately) straps, but all those pictures got too much for me. [DrCurry, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

(?) Real Bikini http://www.sun-prot...models-gallery.html
May I suggest some real bikini models! [sunadvocate, Jun 12 2011]

There's a whole island devoted to this idea http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101448/

Annotation:

Be nice, bliss. I don't think he's suggesting the illusion bikini make it look like you're naked (if so, what's the point? go naked). I think it's a halfbaked attempt at fashion. Really the point of a bikini is to cover only the naughty bits and leave everything else uncovered and ready to absorb sun. This idea takes the final step and eliminates all unnecessary tan lines. Convince me it won't be uncomfortable, and I'll croissant it.
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

I dunno. Fishing line straps could be quite painful...
DrCurry, Mar 05 2003

Given that you can get tanning swimsuits (where the UV goes right through the material and gives you sunburn in places you didn't know you had), I don't know how useful this actually is.
DrCurry, Mar 05 2003

if it worked it would be rather classy. my worry would be being garrotted by my own boobs.

       try cellotape.
po, Mar 05 2003

When do we get a picture of po wearing the illusion bikini?
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

there was an issue of playboy (back in the 80's i think) where one pictorial showed all models wearing these bikinis that didn't have straps at all on the tops OR bottoms and were just held on via some sort of curved plastic or wire embedded in the suit itself... i guess it would sort of "clamp" on to you, but not painfully. they were pretty funky.
SquidInk, Mar 05 2003

Swimsuits in playboy? I hope you didn't pay too much for that issue.
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

i didn't pay for it... it was my dad's.

besides, i find semi-nude women way more appealing than totally nude women. there's still some aspect of mystery.
SquidInk, Mar 05 2003

'Splains why you aren't getting past second base, anyway.
bristolz, Mar 05 2003

He wants the base pads left in place.
FarmerJohn, Mar 05 2003

Okay, clear straps instead of fishing line.
galukalock, Mar 05 2003

applauds [squid] less is more, indeed or in this case - more is less.
po, Mar 05 2003

It is, in this context, very hard to be sexy with no clothes on.
DrCurry, Mar 05 2003

Especially for you, no doubt .....
8th of 7, Mar 05 2003

I guess there's a point of diminishing returns on the size of swimwear.
galukalock, Mar 05 2003

I'm too sexy for my clothes
thumbwax, Mar 05 2003

       Too sexy for my shirt
bristolz, Mar 05 2003

how could i have read an issue of playboy in the 80's if i was only 10 now?

logic, people. too quick to jump to cynical conclusions.

       btw, thanks [po].
SquidInk, Mar 05 2003

I once posted an idea for magnet implants, that could be used to hold jewelry and clothing to the body.
waugsqueke, Mar 05 2003

When I click your name all I see is Cocktail Mice.
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

Worldgineer: You have to watch waugsqueke - he's sneaky and keeps deleting his account.
8th: Hey, it's hard for me to be sexy, full stop.
DrCurry, Mar 05 2003

       "once posted"

I only deleted my account once. I have been removing ideas quite regularly though. These days I just keep one or two around, if that.
waugsqueke, Mar 05 2003

At least twice, by my count: shortly before Dec 19 2001, leading to the "Where's Waugsqueke?" idea, and shortly before Jan 14 2003, as noted on your current account page. Or was that someone else with the same name?
DrCurry, Mar 05 2003

Why? I like the idea of magnet implants.
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

Is this to avoid commentary? Do we just trust you on the (-,+)? Please add a croissant for me.
Worldgineer, Mar 05 2003

There's already bras with straps like this. I'm sure there's bikinis, too. Now all we need is bikinis with transparent cups.
cameron, Mar 05 2003

The second time was just a purge. Technically it was an account deletion I suppose, since you are a picky bastard, but the account was removed for perhaps 2 seconds tops.

Worldgineer, no, it's not to avoid anything. They were there for awhile, and then they weren't. No big. Nothing is permanent.
waugsqueke, Mar 05 2003

       Perhaps Mylar?
X2Entendre, Mar 05 2003

       ...or flowers.

[X2Entendre], Mylar is good and thin, and strong too. *But*, if it gets even the smallest tear, it's in two pieces.
galukalock, Mar 06 2003

       /perhaps 2 seconds tops//

Long enough for us to notice the hitch in the halfbakery fabric.
egbert, Mar 06 2003

       Cheap hoisery?

       Ladder heaven
FloridaManatee, Mar 06 2003

Thanks (jutta?) for moving this to the strap category. I didn't notice it was there.
galukalock, Mar 07 2003

but wouldn't that plastic be a little uncomfertable? How about skin-colored-see-thru nylon straps?
smileydudette, Mar 07 2003

Given that your skin changes color when you sun-bathe, that would be self-defeating.
DrCurry, Mar 07 2003

An illusion bikini is a full coverage, skin-colored wetsuit with a hot pink bikini shape screened onto the surface.
bristolz, Mar 07 2003

DrCurry, i have glasses that change in the sunlight. maybe this technology could be applied to fabric?

If the idea is to look like you're wearing a bikini, but not, just use saran wrap [not that i've tried this...heh heh. no i haven't stop your sinful thoughts] otherwise, paint-on is very fun, only it would be important to use waterproof paint.
igirl, Mar 07 2003

Read the idea some more: only the straps are meant to be invisible (presumably for that strapless tan).
DrCurry, Mar 08 2003

Curry, I think igirl gets it, or what else would be painted?
Worldgineer, Mar 08 2003

Dunno, I'm still boggled over the image of igirl in a Saran wrap bikini.
DrCurry, Mar 08 2003

Can you post a picture of that? I'm still waiting for one of po in an illusion bikini.
Worldgineer, Mar 08 2003

Damn you all...(dirty bastards)...I TOLD YOU TO STOP THE SINFUL THOUGHTS!!!
igirl, Mar 08 2003

I'm not one for gawking at practically nude women, but I'm kinda curious as to what it'd look like too.

I know, "Why'd ya make this up then?" Well, this idea just popped into my head; I wasn't really out to 'strip' down bikinis.
galukalock, Mar 08 2003

[World] I would hate to disillusion you.
po, Mar 08 2003

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Gray Polka Dot Bikini?
FarmerJohn, Mar 08 2003

I thought they were so brightly coloured so they didn't go see-through when they hit the water, and to make them look less like underwear, although underwear is looking more and more like bikinis these days if you've noticed.
Helium, Mar 08 2003

In the Beatles movie "Help!", there's a girl with a bit part in the movie who has an all-white bikini on.
galukalock, Mar 08 2003

       How exciting for you.
Helium, Mar 08 2003

I only mentioned it as it was relevant to your comment about how underwear looks more like bikinis these days. I just happened to remember an instance of the opposite.
galukalock, Mar 08 2003

Someone actually sat through "Help!" all the way. Wow.
waugsqueke, Mar 08 2003

Um, yeah, most of the rest of the human race.
DrCurry, Mar 09 2003

What can you expect from someone who thinks "Speed" was a poor movie? Tch.
egbert, Mar 09 2003

Don't get me wrong, I'm as big a Beatles fan as they come. "A Hard Days Night" is a classic. "Help!" was just positively dreadful.

eg, I can't help it, I'm allergic to Keanu Reeves.
waugsqueke, Mar 09 2003

Keanu Reeves has no talents other than standing around and looking hot
igirl, Mar 09 2003

Maybe they'll do a remake of "Help" with Keanu Reeves playing all four Beatles roles, using whatever technology allowed Nicholas Cage to play two characters onscreen at the same time in "Adaptation." I bet waugs would *love* that.

Yeah, "Help"'s pretty weak, but it beats the Dave Clark Five movie "Catch Us If You Can."
snarfyguy, Mar 09 2003

Ya know, snarf, I'd go see that if Charlie Kaufman writes the screenplay.
waugsqueke, Mar 09 2003

HmmMM, dissolving bikini clasp - my next project.
FloridaManatee, Mar 10 2003

We need a new MFD: marked for AOL Instant Messenger.
RayfordSteele, Mar 10 2003

       beg or lol or something.
dalek, Mar 11 2003

You know dissolving bikinis would be pretty cool.
black sheep, Mar 11 2003

7 or 8 years after the first posting

I think you could use a fleshtone LED on nonshiny fiber to make the optical fiber blend pretty well with the skin to make it even less visible.

Im gawking at the phrase "fleshtone LED" as well.
beanangel, Jun 13 2011

Transparent straps: baked. Underwire-supported 'clamp-on' bikinis: baked. Adhesive-backed stick-on bikinis: baked. Bikinis painted on with an airbrush: so, so baked.

Holographic projection bikinis not yet baked. Coming soon from Alterorder, inc.!
