I get at least ten of those a day. Instant Message Block would be a program that blocks both the usernames of known porn pushers and the incoming
messages. For instance, 90% of the messages use the greeting that I listed above, but from thousands of different names. The program would update its database every time you logged on. If, per chance, an innocent person wanting to talk sends you the same greeting, the programs simply responds to them and tells them that it blocked their message and why. (P.S., The link I gave above probably does exist, although I've never been there, and wouldn't recommend trying it.)

Maybe you need something like a web of trust. You list everyone you know, they list everyone they know and so on. If the person trying to talk to you isn't on someone's list within seven hops of you then your IM system ignores them. You could combine this with a blacklist where people who put spammers on their list are ignored. |

Yahoo!/AOL/MSN Instant Messaging? |

Very baked. Just about every IM service I know of has a Privacy feature where you can make it so that NOBODY can message you unless they are already on your buddy list. Turn this feature on. Unless your best friend is a porn spammer, you shouldn't get any more of these messages. |

Actually I tried chatting back to some of these porn spammers on ICQ a few times, they are robots and don't respond after they've delivered the critical URL. |

Oh another thing be sure to do if you use ICQ: turn OFF the "web presence" feature. Some of the spammers have bots that use it. |

jutta, krelnik: Actually this idea started the train of thought. Initially, I was just chuckling over the idea of web bots striking up conversations with other web bots, both trying to snare what they perceived as a human at the other end of the conversation. |
