Stupid convention dictates we should wear jackets on certain occasions, regardless of the discomfort it may cause, especially in summer. Weddings, funerals, important interviews and meetings with dignitaries spring to mind.
Bubbarmani Couture is about to release the solution to this vexing problem.
Our range of high fashion men's and ladies' outerwear features a number of small, high capacity fans and tubular vents, similar to those used in compact laptop computers.
The objective is to expel hot, moist air from inside the jacket and replace it with cooler, drier air, to aid the cooling effect of perspiration.
For now, a small panel of rechargeable watch batteries power the fan units, though advances in flexible photovoltaic cell technology may soon make the power source lighter and even more discreet.
Because sometimes you just have to wear a coat or suit on a hot day.

[UB] you've even got an anno on that one [FlyingToaster, Oct 14 2009]
And of course you'd wear one of these under it...

Good idea [UB]! A gentleman ALWAYS wears a jacket on a hot day... |

I did annotate that idea, [FT]. Unfortunately, the idea was about a buil-in cloth tube that you hold up to a warm air duct to push air into the jaacket. |

There were very few of them to be found at the last graveside service I attended, for a friend who'd died of heat stress while standing around in a black, woollen suit at the funeral of a friend who'd died of heat stress whilst at a funeral... |

You should also investigate peltier devices. |
