With all of the hot air being passed about on the subject of global warming, it occurs to me that the problem is largely one of carbon sequestration.
As it stands the Earth's vegetation, seas and other mechanisms capture and control about 8% of the CO2 that's in circulation. It therefore stands to
reason that increasing the amount of vegetation deliberately would increase the rate of sequestration of carbon. (In essence, trees are almost solid carbon... congealed CO2, if you like).
It is henceforth the duty of every concerned citizen to plant trees, vines, grass, weeds, whatever it takes to reduce the amount of carbon in the air.
Kudzu, Paulownia, Casuarina, Buddleja, Maple & Mustard seeds will be distributed to all, for immediate planting in your neighbourhood. In other places they'll be airdropped to rehabilitate cleared land. We'll even seedbomb the former Brazilian rainforest.
Make CO2 growth history.

Next you'll be encouraging everyone to

...and the New idea is? The real answer to the problem of man made global warming is for the deniers like Australia and USA to wake up, and show a more enlightened, responsible attitude. Signing up to the very modest levels of Kyoto, which both countries refused to do, would be a start. |
|
| |
Highlighting the ignorance of potential president of USA candidates like village idiot mark 2 Sarah Palin would also serve to focus more public attention on this dire problem.
Grrrrrrrrr |

If you plant a weed, is it still a weed? |

It was the first thing the new government did, once it was in office. We're now enacting a carbon trading program that everyone else is cautioning us will be too far, too fast. The previous governemnt answered to a lickarse who spent so much time crawling up Dubya's ring that he now has a permanent tan. |

The NEW IDEA is to deliberately hand out seeds of fast-growing, early-adapter plants to all and sundry. If we were to double the land planted with trees we'd eat up 1/4 of all atmospheric CO2 each year. Neat trick. Find someone with a manicured, treeless lawn... plant it with ipomoea vines. |

Weeds are just plants that grow where we don't expect them. |

I keep planting hemp but someone keeps digging it up. |

That still doesn't explain why [phoenix] has a garage full of Doritos. |

Sounds like a good idea! I always think about global warming and the northern areas of the world. Each time winter comes around vegetation goes into hibernation and co2 that is produced remains more than there would if the plants didn't go into hibernation. This gives me an idea... |
