Oops, another unthought-out idea. I've absolutely no idea why this might be a good idea, who it would benefit, how it would work, etc.
It occurs to me, though, that wherever in the world a street light is, it should also allow a public wireless access point, which could (maybe, or maybe not) eventually
connect to th'internet at some juncture.
Whoever, in each case, provides and pays for the installation, hardware and running costs of the lamp posts and street lighting in each locale, could also go one extra and provide this wireless access facility.
Each lamp post would have its own IP address, and because they tend to be fairly static items, the exact location of each unit could be made known. This might have some usefulness in odd cases that (for some reason) GPS might not offer.
As I say, I've really not thought this one through.
