This car has a "lance" hidden beneath the bonnet. This is a triangular spike made of an extremely strong material extending from the passenger cabin to the grill.
When the car collides frontally, all the "weak" parts (car body, engine block) strip away and crumple and the "strong" parts (lance and
passenger cabin) stay intact.
As the lance impales the opponent's car and bends away its body, it dissipates energy additionally to the crumple zone. It effectively uses the opponent's car as an additional (sideways) crumple zone. This way less energy is transferred to the passenger cabin, increasing crash safety.
The lance also acts as a wedge and diverts objects from the opponent's car that may introde into the cabin. [link]

And what if you run into a concrete wall.... |
|
| |
Oh also shows predetermination, so when someone dies, it's murder not manslaughter. |

Is *introde* a real word? |
|
| |
Joust a minute - the point of using a lance, in tilting, was to skilfully unhorse the opponent. Not to skewer them. |
|
| |
F1 cockpits are this. Carbon fibre origami, one commentator called it. |
|
| |
If it proved predetermination, philosophers all over the world would rejoice. |
|
| |
Quite apart from the likelihood of killing the occupants of the other car, if this strikes something solid (concrete wall as mentioned, or just the engine block of the other vehicle) then the crumple zone is completely bypassed. You're back to the "tank-like" philosophy that tends to kill its occupants. |

Yes. It's a combination of "intrude" and "explode". |
|

"also shows predetermination" |
|
| |
Its stated purpose is to protect the occupants. |
|
| |
So it doesn't show any more predetermination than those steel bull bars attached to the front of some urban SUVs. |
|
| |
I have never heard of a motorist being accused of murder because he knocked down a pedestrian with bull bars. |
|
| |
Correct, because bull bars are defensive, (also basically meaningless in a real crash) your lance design isn't. Its design is to actively defeat others protection. This is why bumper heights were mandated so morons who lifted their trucks up 3 feet wouldn't kill others with their stupidity when getting into accidents. |
|
| |
Pretty handy for running into bulls, however. |
