The sausages are cooking under the grill and are almost ready for serving. Open the cupboard and grab one of those electromagnetic plates out*.
Put the plates on the table and plug them in. Listen for the hum as the electromagnetism builds.
Go to serve the sausage on the plate but ... wait
on.... what the *&£$! The sausages levitate due to their water content and the presence of something strong, static and electromagnetic.
Children smile. A wonderful meal was had by all.
* You'll need an iron plate with plenty of wire and power. I'll leave you to choose your preferred design.

I think you need a really high water content [jtg], although I admit it would be fun. you might be able to get levitating jelly/jello ?
Also you'd have to have quite a beast of an electromagnet, and I'm under the impression that they don't do nice things to your head in the long term.

This would work under the grill also, with the levitating sausages constantly turning themselves over and therefore cooking perfectly. If the magnetism was just right, they could also be made to drop down as the water content is reduced when cooked through. |

You could have a special weenie coil for each sausage. It becomes an electromagnet through induction, and hovering would be controlled by modulation of the fields. |
