Haiku - it's really jolly stylish. Those Japanese appreciate the elegance of form and rhythm, and write poetry which has a musical seduction to it.

But the stuff they write about - honestly! However beautiful the metre, it's still pretty dull stuff about a guy noting the fall of cherry blossom, or rejoicing at landing a bonito.

Full marks for style; content needs work.

Limericks, on the other hand have the opposite problem. Their content is entertaining and ingenious (there was a young lady called Dinah...), as we have come to expect from the silver-stereotyped Irish.

But the metre - oh my goodness. "Tee diddle ee diddle ee dum/ tee diddle ee diddle ee dum/tee diddle ee dum/tee diddle ee dum/tee diddle ee diddle vagina." It grates on ones sensibilities, as irritating as one of those Irish fiddle- players in a theme pub.

So.

The Tactical Literary Division of MaxCo. is developing a new and exciting range of Limeriakus. The pithy with of the limerick coupled with the graceful beauty of the haiku.

"Young girl from Madras
Oh! How beautiful her ass!
It's grey and eats grass."

I say "Oh, for goodness sake!
Yours do not rhyme, mate."

       Most gentlemanly.
Damn! Rhymes for "gentlemanly"?
Scarce, ironically.
