Those who use public lockers known the inconvenience of carrying around a heavy steel combination lock in order to secure their property.
The Lock It Socket is a simple locking device that resembles a bolt and rounded nut, which can only be turned using your unique wrench. [link]
|
| |
How many unique wrenches will there be? One could increase the possible number by making the wrench as a flat blade, with a finite number of varying faces to engage the nut. |
|
| |
Apart from the device bungston describes - if only we had a short, convenient name for it! - something very similar is widely used in the form of weird screw heads for which tools are difficult to find (and/or useless) outside a specific profession. |

Maybe lockers should just be fitted with card swipes, since we all carry cards with magnetic strips these days. |
|
| |
If you google 'security nut' or 'security screw' or 'security bolt' you will find a vast array of readily availabe products. |
|
| |
Errrrrrm, why is your lock in your pocket (I think Iggy did a song about this) instead of locking the locker? |
|
| |
The advantage is that the bolt and nut are smaller than the combination lock. But then you have to carry around a wrench (and maybe two of them). Where do you put those wrenches? In your speedo? |
|
| |
One pool that I went to provided keys for lockers that fastened to one's speedo with a safety pin. |
|
| |
[Murdoch] some facilities don't allow for locks to be left on overnight, so the lock has to be carried around. |
|
| |
ldischler, wrench might be used as a verb in this instance. Perhaps a handshake of some kind? |
|
| |
There are many compounds that will envelop the shape of the unique nut, and electronically, chemically or physically (custard for example) harden enough to open the system. |
|
| |
Duly sanctioned user authentication is a large problem in security systems as a whole, not specifically travel bag security. If you come up with the answer, you will take over the world, this is not it, however. |
|
| |
The solution as stated above is similar to Public Key infrastructure, except that it lacks the necessary private key portion. |

I think bungston and jutta's subtle irony has bypassed Noexit. |

Ways to break into [rcarty]'s locker : Stilson's wrench, vice grips, good pliers, Metrinch spanner (maybe), chain wrench, etc etc etc. |
