"What if you could actually play the lottery from your bank ATM?", asks Ian. [jutta, Apr 03 2006]

Huh? I don't play the lottery, but I know it is different in different places. This idea needs explaining.

I think Zimmy dislikes queuing in the convenience store with people who want to buy lottery tickets, and wants them to use a separate, ATM-like interface instead. But that's just a guess.

There are many ticket-dispensing machines where I live, for smaller prices won immediately. They allow people who feel guilty about the irrationality of their gambling to indulge without having to face another human.

What if you could actually play the lottery from your bank ATM? On second thoughts, perhaps that option shouldn't be dangled in front of most people.

Nothing annoys me more than standing on line at my local corner store seemingly FOREVER because the clerk is assisting some schmuck who is getting $200 in lottery tickets.

I was just about to post "Bank Machine Lotto" where if you had an ATM card you could not only do your banking but play the local lotteries.... or maybe "double or nothing" the ATM on your withdrawal based on a RNG.
