Suited best to seaside resorts, these could be a feature in upscale seaside housing.
In the lounge of your beach house is a circular pool, with a channel leading away to the sea. Anemones (love thy anemone), urchins, molluscs, crabs and many small fish make their homes here.
The design of
the pool takes into account tidal rises and falls, though can be closed against storm surges. Baffles take care of wave action.
When pods of dolphins or perhaps the odd seal come in close to shore, they can flip open a sea gate and swim up the channel into the lounge.
They're curious and sociable and some would be be interested to see what's inside ; much nicer to have a seagoing friend that wants to come and visit rather than heading into the ocean all the time. If you want, you can jump in with them until they decide to leave.
Not for exploitation of the animals, just serendipity.

Dolphins?! How big is this bloody "rockpool". Also channel to sea would have to be wide and short enough to let free flow of fresh water in. I thought this would be an open topped reef tank or something.
A note: most marine life from non tropical seas cannot survive the temperatures of a centrally heated house, you would need a big and pricey chiller. Maybe better to just pick a house next to a rocky beach. |

My neighbours have a rock pool set into the floor of their living area, complete with fish, and an arched bridge over the top to walk over. |

Does it have access to the ocean? I used to work in a building with a stream in the foyer, but it was self-contained, and very sterile. |

[UB] - there are several buildings where there are streams in the foyer, lots in run-down areas in inner cities, for example. Sterile but, admittedly, not necessarily self-contained. |

Rods, the film had one redemption for me - they managed to dig Douglas Rains out of whatever hole he had been in for 15 or so years and have him reprise the voice of HAL. Even though he was kinda dopey after sitting in Jovian space for all that time, it was great to see/hear HAL boot up again. |
