It is common knowledge that placing a magnet near a computer can f*%@ the computer up. Same goes for security cameras.
I've noticed when playing 007-type computer games that when my opponent shoots out one of my security cameras, It's pretty obvious when you walk by and see a busted camera, which
allows me to immediately alert my comrades to my opponent's presence.
What I propose is a gun, about the size of a flare gun, that shoots a permanant magnet attached to a glob of gak, or a suction cup, which sticks to the wall near (or directly on) a security camera or monitoring computer, thereby allowing you or your comrades to slip by unnoticed and minimizing the risk of detection. Questionable. Security cameras should be unaffected by the presence of a magnet, as they contain no magnetic media. A magnet could in theory corrupt a computer's hard drive, but if fired while running I think there's a good chance the computer could continue to operate for some time, even with a corrupted drive, until the OS had to access something from the disk instead of RAM. |

Even then, to reach through the case of the computer and the hard drive, and the intervening distance, the magnet would have to be so powerful as to be a serious liability to carry on your person. An alternative would be to slap it on the monitor, if it's a CRT, which could damage it enough to make it unreadable, but this wouldn't work with an LCD screen. |

i suggest a rubber, panel-beating,
hammer. bang on the side of the computer
case, or security camera. it's rubber so no
dents. i mean really, how many consumer
electronics are shock proofed to the extent
of withsatnding a whack with a hammer.
it's more reliable as well. no problems with
the magnet actually not working. |
